This classic baked ziti recipe hits the spot on a cold day with three cheeses: ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
Prep: 10 mins
Cook: 45 mins
Yields: 8 Servings
Ingredients
16 ounces Anthony's® Ziti
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 large onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (26- to 30-ounce) jar spaghetti sauce (about 3 cups)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
1Preheat oven the 350°F. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain well and set aside.
2While pasta is cooking, heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic and cook for approximately 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
3Add spaghetti sauce and dried oregano to skillet; bring just to a boil before removing it from the heat.
4In a large bowl, stir 1 cup spaghetti sauce into cooked pasta to coat well. Transfer half of the pasta mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish and top with the container of ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella, and 1 cup spaghetti sauce.
5Transfer the remaining pasta mixture into the baking dish and top with remaining sauce. Cover and bake for 20 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan; bake for approximately 10 minutes more until cheese is melted.
Cook’s Tip: This recipe uses jarred spaghetti sauce, but you can make it your own by doctoring a jar of plain sauce with your family’s favorite ingredients, such as vegetables, meats, or herbs and spices. Don’t be afraid to experiment.
